Luke Wadding (1588–1657) was an Irish Franciscan, born in Waterford. He entered the order in Portugal, studied in Portugal and at Salamanca, and went to Rome in 1618 with a Spanish embassy to the pope on the Immaculate Conception. He spent the rest of his life there and founded the College of St Isidore for Irish Franciscans in 1625. He is not the Jesuit theologian of the same name (1593–1651).

Wadding's *Annales Minorum* is the great history of the Franciscan order, and his *Scriptores Ordinis Minorum* a catalogue of its writers. For the Scotist school his decisive work was the edition of Scotus's works in twelve volumes (Lyon, 1639), prepared with the Irish Franciscans of St Isidore's and printed with the commentaries of Lychetus and others. It remained the standard text of Scotus until the critical edition of the twentieth century.
