Juan de Torquemada

1388–1468

Juan de Torquemada (1388-1468) was a Spanish Dominican theologian and cardinal. A leading papalist at the Council of Basel and the Council of Ferrara-Florence, he defended papal primacy and the Filioque; his Summa de Ecclesia (completed c. 1453) is the most systematic ecclesiology of the fifteenth century.
