Commentaria in Summam contra Gentiles
First published 1918
In Book II of the Commentaria in Summam contra Gentiles, Francesco Silvestri of Ferrara (Ferrariensis) expounds Aquinas's account of creation, the distinction of creatures, and the human soul. The commentary accompanies the Leonine text in volume XIII (1918). The present digital edition includes the Latin text and an English translation.
Caput V: Ordo dicendorum
Since, then, it remains to treat of creatures in this second book, the treatment of them will be threefold 1. The first will concern the production of things into esse; the second, their distinction, in chapter XXXIX; the third, their nature, insofar as it pertains to the truth of faith, in chapter XLVI.
Note that Saint Thomas added, as far as the truth of faith is concerned: because, as was said above 2, he does not intend in this place to treat of creatures according to their proper natures, but according to the order they have toward God.
