Leonardo de Peñafiel
1597–1657
Jesuit
Leonardo de Peñafiel (1597–1657) was born at Riobamba, in the Audiencia of Quito. As a Jesuit he held the prime chair of theology at the Society's Colegio de San Pablo in Lima. In 1656 he was made provincial of Peru, and he died the next year at Chuquisaca while visiting the province.
His theology was printed only after his death, as the title pages say, *olim primarii theologiae professoris* in Lima: *Disputationes theologicae in primam partem divi Thomae* on God (1663), then disputations on the Incarnation and on faith. They carry the questions of Suárez and Vázquez to a Lima lecture hall.
